Medill Asian Student Association (MASA) launched today! It aims to build connections among Asian, non-Asian students and alumni of Medill, and raising awareness about Asian culture through a series of different events.
The MASA mission:
1. To provide a social network for Asian students
2. To connect Asia with other parts of the world, in terms of culture, network and mutual understanding, and to broadcast Asian culture to people from other places so that they know Asia better.
3. To widely promote the Medill brand in Asia, through different channels of communication.
"I was surprised to find that half of the class is made up of students from all over Asia. After talking with some 5th quarter students who went on the Asian trip this summer, I felt their great passion and eagerness to know more about Asia. Moreover, I wish there was some way to promote Medill in Asia. Therefore, the idea of establishing an Asian student committee came to mind." Annabel Yang, one of the founder of MASA, said in her opening speech.
After the opening speech and association introduction, Professor Tom Collinger and students who enjoyed the Asia trip, shared their experiences.
At the conclusion of the launch, all 30 participants received a name tag with their names written in various Asian languages: Mandarin, Hindi, Korean, and Japanese. They even had a chance to win a raffle!
So, are you MASA?
